The Importance of Sleep
We all know that person who boasts about getting stuff-all sleep, talking about how they only sleep about 3-4 hours a night and think they’re a badass because of it. In actuality, they’re boasting about being more predisposed to a myriad of issues such as slower brain function, crappy recovery (both from illness or physical activity) and increased risk factors for many illnesses. Learn more about the importance of sleep below!
Here are just a few reasons as to why you need to focus on quality sleep:
1 – Quality sleep has been associated with healthy weight maintenance and weight-loss. Studies have proven that getting under 7 hours of quality sleep per night increases your risk of unhealthy weight gain!
2 – Get the most out of your training! Sleep is extremely important for physical recovery, so pair up good training (see our trainers for a program!) with quality sleep and you’re on your way to good progress and achieving goals!
3 – Poor sleep has a massive effect on our mental health. Even a single night with poor sleep can radically affect our mood the next day. Multiple nights of poor sleep can lead to other longer termed mental illnesses like depression and anxiety issues!
4 – Good sleep improves your memory! Sleeping helps consolidate all the experiences of the day to form memories. You also need continuous quality sleep to make the recall of all those memories more efficient.
Movies, TV shows and social media has, for some reason, glorified lack of sleep like it’s some kind of cool badge to wave around. In reality, lack of sleep is nothing to brag about and you’re definitely not achieving your best self! Prioritize your sleep!
Make sure to spread the word of the importance of sleep so others can prioritise their sleep as well!
